Lake Bled hardly needs an introduction - especially, if a picture tells a thousand words. There could quite possibly be nothing more incentive than a visit to one of Europe’s most stunning lakes, rowing a boat to the island and climbing the stairs to the church, once you are there.

Bled is not only Lake Bled with its well known island and castle above the lake. It is a unique location, where one can truly take in nature in its most beautiful form: pristine, unspoilt and diverse. Bled with its surroundings is an image of a picturesque landscape at the entrance to the rich and vast Alpine world. It is a natural area of experiences, where the human body can soak it in with movement, research and new experiences while recharging the batteries. Bled is not only a visual paradise. With its wider surroundings, like the Triglav National Park or Lake Bohinj and numerous Alpine valleys, it is a unique playground for socializing, various forms of adventure and activities.

The destination is appropriate, or even one of the best in Slovenia, for an active vacation or even full time adventure holiday. Sava Dolinjka river offers excellent rafting in close proximity to Bled, while the upper part of Sava Bohinjka river is an excellent location for white water kayaking, being just wild enough for it to be appropriate for almost anyone. If you are not up for sitting in a kayak, but are looking for a good dose of adrenaline, there is canyoning, which is a first-class experience for hot summer days. Descending in a misterious canyon of Grmecica or Jereka – both Sava river tributaries, can be an experience of a lifetime.

Adventure time

Visitors have an option to choose numerous cycling paths and off-road mountain biking areas in close proximity to Bled as well as in Triglav National Park and the Karawanks. Here is where also those who are more experienced and seek more demanding terrain get their share, as well as those who look for a comfortable and well organized cycling tour. Bled is an excellent starting point for walking tours to the Julian Alps mountain tops and researching marvelous Alpine valleys, such as the Triglav Lakes Valley. Families can set out to the pastures, where cows and sheep are still out there grazing mountain grass and where cheese-making tradition is still preserved. One can also taste true Alpine culinary, apart from a pleasant walk in the nature. Hilly and mountainous landscape in Bled’s surroundings offers numerous views of the area, if one makes a small effort to reach one of the hilltops or viewpoints.

Life out of Bled is organized quite differently. It is far more relaxed and open to various adventure ideas. People on the countryside make a living by handycraft, farming and home-grown produce and products. One doesn’t need to put in much effort to visit the countryside, where it is possible to experience many new situations and gain new perspectives.
