This is a story about the Julian Alps, a wonderful mountain range, full of vertical walls; a story about a river, a daring beauty that boasts in all its beauty and meanders down a valley with its emerald tone; and it’s a story about the untouched lakes and waterfalls. It’s a story about Slovenia, one of the most beautiful parts of the world, and a story about how this marvelous nature, unspoiled mountainous world with its deep valleys and high plateaus, simply fills you up with such energy and joy, inspires you and frees you from those everyday concerns.

We Slovenians are proud of our mountains, so much so that we write books, songs and movies about them. Main characters from the movie Kekec were joyfully taking their cattle to graze on meadows, where our tour passes by. This tour also takes us across the well-known Vršič mountain pass (1611m), where a picturesque view of the mountain range opens up. Every year a Slovenian biking race takes place on this pass – determining the winner of this cycling challenge. On a good day one can see far from the mountain pass, almost to the Adriatic Sea. Mountains surround us throughout the whole tour and they are considered as some of the most beautiful ones in the whole Alps, due to their deep valleys and meandering rivers.

The route of this tour is mostly determined by the path of the emerald beauty, truly unique in its splendor, the Soča river. This river with its emerald hue awaits for us at its spring, at the very start of Trenta Valley. It then meanders, sometimes wildly and then again elegantly, through the narrow valley and we, lucky as we are, can enjoy and admire it all along the route. The Great Gorges of Soča are one landmark on our tour, where we see the emerald queen in all its majesty: deep down under our feet the river wildly flows, full of raw energy. Soča is close by our side all the way to the spot, where we switch our soft carpeted minivan seats for the bouncy rubber rafts and bravely descend down the river’s curves and rapids. This is when we truly feel her energy and its natural poetry. Rafting is a remarkable experience and this new encounter offers, to those who are open to it, a fresh and new perspective.

Slovenia - one of the greenest countries

On this tour, we also realize why Slovenia is considered as one of the greenest countries in the world. Without exaggeration and with great pride we can say that it is also one of the healthiest, richest in nature with clean rivers and unspoiled Alpine lakes. Yes, I can even say that this Alpine air of ours is special: one can take in a deep breath of fresh air, all the way to the tip of ones lungs. Our journey can easily confirm all that is written above, for we, among other things, see the marvelous Bohinj Lake and Lake Jasna, unique Kozjak waterfall at Kobarid and we can admire from afar the powerful Boka waterfall. At the end part of the tour, we drive on a moto-rail, which takes us across remote areas that offer magical natural backdrops and through a dark 100-years-old tunnel that is 6.4 kilometers long and goes under Črna Prst, all the way to Bohinjska Bistrica. What an unforgettable ride.
